Awnings need approximately 6 to 12 inches of open heightwise wall or roof space to be installed. Best for attaching furring strips doors and electrical boxes in concrete brick stucco or blocks. I attached a 5 overhang awning with kickers using 3 4 thd rod embedded in hilti 270 in 12 concrete wall. Set up your stepladders on either side of the location where your awning will be placed.

The awning will be mounted to a solid brick wall not veneer at the top with a ledger board and below with braces brackets. Must be hammered into place. Obviously i have to go all the way through the awning but how far into the brick should i go if i am going to use a sleeve anchor. If you just put screws into the mortar it will eventually crumble around the entrance hole and just pull out. Using a stud finder locate the full left to right width of the header and axial studs. Also when using screws it s imperative that you use countersinks for the screws. Avoid using in crumbly surfaces.

This allows most awning fasteners to puncture the concrete lap siding and sheathing and make contact with the studs. The braces that will hold up the awning are about 4 thick.
