After you ve marked the location of each one drill pilot holes along every other rafter tail to make installation of the brackets easier.

Measure your roof line and wall height to calculate the number of 10 foot sections of gutter and downspout you ll need. X research source locate each rafter tail usually spaced every 16 inches 40 6 cm apart by looking for their signature nail heads. If you can t find u shaped brackets make them from sections of downspout. Measure and cut gutter pieces as you would for aluminum gutters except that you don t need the extra 3 to 4 inches of overlap for each piece.

Pvc or vinyl gutters are designed to snap together easily but may require the use of gaskets or a sealant to ensure a waterproof connection. Joining gutter sections together is a fairly simple job. Hang the gutter sections along the fascia with their ends touching together. Attach the gutter brackets on every other rafter tail.

I was working with standard 5 inch gutters with a k profile. Finish the gutter job by attaching the downspouts to the wall. Other than the gutter itself it requires little more than a downspout and an elbow or two. When installing metal gutters the process involves overlapping the two pieces and riveting them together.

They look better than the bands that wrap around the outside and make it easier to hang the downspouts.
